How to Submit Your Sitemap

Follow these steps to submit your sitemap:

1. Navigate to the Google Search Console website

2. Use the dropdown menu to select your blog domain property

3. Click Sitemaps in the left navigation panel

4. In the "Add a new sitemap" field, enter your sitemap URL slug (for example: sitemap.xml for your entire blog)

5. Click Submit

Confirmation

After successful submission, Google Search Console will display a confirmation message indicating that your sitemap has been received and processed.

Troubleshooting: "Couldn't fetch" error

If your submission shows a "Couldn't fetch" status, your sitemap may be fine but Google simply hasn't read it yet. Check the following in order:

1. Confirm that (your blog address)/sitemap.xml (e.g. https://blog.example.com/sitemap.xml) opens directly in a browser.
2. Make sure you have verified domain ownership in Google Search Console first.
3. Enter the value as sitemap.xml (no leading slash), not /sitemap.xml.
4. If it still shows "Couldn't fetch", try resubmitting with an arbitrary query parameter such as sitemap.xml?v=1. When a valid sitemap won't submit, it is often a temporary Google Search Console issue, and adding a query parameter frequently makes Google fetch it successfully.
