Is Framer Good for SEO? [2025 Update]

Last year, I wrote an assessment of Framer's SEO capabilities that highlighted significant limitations.

My verdict then was clear: while Framer excelled in design and could produce fast-loading, visually appealing sites, it presented major challenges for content-heavy, SEO-focused projects.

Its limitations in content management, built-in SEO tools, and marketing features made it less than ideal for comprehensive SEO strategies.

But the web development landscape evolves rapidly, and Framer has made substantial changes to its SEO capabilities.

In this 2025 update, I'll examine what's changed, what's improved, and whether Framer has addressed the key limitations I identified previously.

Methodology

This updated assessment is based on hands-on experience managing content and SEO strategies across multiple platforms, along with the latest updates to Framer's SEO capabilities as of March 2025.

It draws from extensive work with WordPress for content-heavy sites, exploration of Webflow for design-focused projects, and recent experience with Framer-built sites for clients.

The focus is on aspects most crucial to SEO and content management in today's search landscape.

Framer's SEO Capabilities in 2025

Framer has significantly improved its SEO offerings since our last review. The platform now provides a robust set of SEO tools that, while once considered a limitation, have evolved to become quite competitive in the web design space.

Automated SEO Features

Framer now comes with several automated SEO features right out of the box:

  • Automatic sitemaps and robots.txt: These are now generated automatically, eliminating the need for manual creation or third-party plugins.

  • Server-side rendering: This improves crawlability and indexing by search engines, delivering faster initial page loads.

  • Performance optimization: Sites built with Framer tend to load quickly, a significant advantage for SEO in Google's current ranking system.

  • Built-in analytics: Framer's GDPR-compliant analytics requires no cookie banners and provides essential insights into your site's performance.

Customizable SEO Controls

Framer has expanded its customization options, giving users greater control over SEO elements:

  • Meta titles and descriptions: You can now add custom titles and descriptions at both the site and individual page levels, including customization for CMS pages.

  • Custom domains and canonicals: Full support for custom domains and the ability to set canonical URLs help prevent duplicate content issues.

  • JSON-LD support: Structured data implementation is now supported through JSON-LD, enhancing rich snippet opportunities in search results.

  • Redirects management: Easily set up redirects to preserve traffic from old URLs, which is essential when reorganizing your site.

Design-to-Code Efficiency

Framer continues to excel at bridging the gap between design and development, allowing for the creation of visually stunning, interactive websites. This indirectly benefits SEO by improving user experience and engagement metrics, which are increasingly important ranking factors in 2025.

Performance and Core Web Vitals

While Google has retired some performance-related ranking systems, fast-loading times are still important for SEO. Framer's React-based architecture contributes to smooth interactions and excellent Core Web Vitals scores, potentially reducing bounce rates and increasing time on site.

Mobile Optimization

Framer excels in creating responsive layouts, with excellent support for mobile devices. This remains important as mobile-friendliness continues to be a significant ranking factor in Google's mobile-first index.

Modern Technology Stack

The use of React can lead to efficient code output, which contributes to better crawlability and indexing. Framer's implementation of lazy loading for images and components helps maintain performance even on content-heavy pages.

Comprehensive Metadata Support

You can easily customize meta titles and descriptions for both your entire site and individual pages through the intuitive Site Settings interface. For CMS-driven content, Framer allows metadata customization for each entry, giving you granular control over how each piece of content appears in search results.

The platform also supports OpenGraph metadata, optimizing how your content displays when shared on social media platforms.

Content Management Limitations

Despite improvements, Framer's content management capabilities still have some limitations compared to WordPress or purpose-built blogging platforms. While Framer now has a built-in CMS system for blogs and articles, users may still encounter challenges with:

  • Creating and managing extensive taxonomies (categories and tags)

  • Setting up complex content hierarchies for improved internal linking

  • Implementing advanced editorial workflows for large teams of writers

Technical SEO Integration

While Framer has added support for JSON-LD structured data, some specific technical SEO implementations still require additional effort:

  • Schema markup implementation: While basic JSON-LD is supported, implementing complex nested schema types (like Recipe with Nutrition Information or Product with multiple Offers) requires custom coding knowledge.

  • Hreflang tag implementation: For multilingual sites, proper implementation of hreflang tags often requires manual code insertion.

  • Custom robots directives: Beyond the basic robots.txt, implementing page-specific robots meta directives may require additional customization.

  • Advanced canonicalization: For sites with complex pagination or filtering systems, advanced canonical strategies require technical expertise.

Content Creation Workflow

The content optimization workflow in Framer has improved but still lacks some of the integrated SEO analysis tools found in WordPress with plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math. Tasks like analyzing keyword density, checking content readability scores, and getting suggestions for internal linking still often require external tools.

Pricing for Multilingual Sites

As noted by some users, Framer has changed its localization policies, making it potentially more expensive to maintain websites with multiple languages. While workarounds exist, this could be a consideration for businesses with global audiences.
