How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul: All Transport Options (2026)

You Just Landed at Incheon Airport — Now What?

Welcome to Korea! You've just landed at Incheon International Airport (ICN), one of the best airports in the world. Now you need to get to Seoul, which is about 60 km (37 miles) west of the airport.

The good news: there are multiple easy and affordable ways to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul. As a Korean who has picked up countless friends at the airport, I'll walk you through every option so you can pick the one that fits your budget, schedule, and energy level after a long flight.

All Options at a Glance

KTX (Bullet Train)~20 min to SuseoNot recommended (see below)Heading south, not to central Seoul

The AREX is my top recommendation for most travelers. It's fast, cheap, reliable, and runs frequently. There are two versions:

AREX Express Train (Direct to Seoul Station)

Travel time43 minutes (non-stop)
Cost9,500 KRW (~$7 USD)
FrequencyEvery 30-40 minutes
HoursFirst train ~6:00 AM, last train ~10:50 PM

The Express train goes directly from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station with zero stops. Comfortable seats, luggage storage, free WiFi, and charging outlets. From Seoul Station, you can easily transfer to subway Lines 1, 4, or the KTX. For more detail on using the subway system once you arrive, see our Seoul subway guide for tourists.

AREX All-Stop Train (Local)

DetailInfo
Travel time56-66 minutes
Cost4,150 KRW (~$3 USD) with T-money card
FrequencyEvery 6-12 minutes
HoursFirst train ~5:20 AM, last train ~11:50 PM
DestinationSeoul Station (with stops at Hongdae, DMC, etc.)

The All-Stop train is more than half the price of the Express and only takes 15-20 minutes longer. It stops at several stations including Hongdae (홍대입구) — one of Seoul's most popular neighborhoods. If your hotel is near Hongdae, this is the most direct option. Check out our guide to Seoul neighborhoods to pick the best area for your trip.

My recommendation: Take the All-Stop AREX unless you're in a huge rush. It's half the price, runs more frequently, and the time difference is minimal. Plus, if you're staying in Hongdae or nearby areas, you can get off at Hongdae station without going all the way to Seoul Station.

How to Ride the AREX

  1. Follow the signs — after clearing immigration and customs, follow the signs for "Airport Railroad" or "AREX." It's located in the basement level (B1) of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
  2. Buy your ticket — use the ticket machines (English available) or tap your T-money card at the gate. For the Express train, you need to buy a specific Express ticket at the counter or machine
  3. Board the train — Express trains are clearly marked and depart from a separate platform
  4. Arrive at Seoul Station — follow signs to the subway or taxi stand

Terminal 2 travelers: If you arrive at Terminal 2 (Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM), the AREX stops at Terminal 2 first, then Terminal 1, before heading to Seoul. The total journey from Terminal 2 is about 10 minutes longer.

Option 2: Airport Limousine Bus — Door-to-Door Convenience

DetailInfo
Travel time60-90 minutes (depends on traffic)
Cost10,000-17,000 KRW (~$8-13 USD)
FrequencyEvery 15-30 minutes per route
Hours~5:30 AM to ~11:00 PM (varies by route)

Airport limousine buses are large, comfortable coaches with luggage storage underneath. The biggest advantage is that they drop you off at specific hotels and neighborhoods throughout Seoul — so you might end up right at your hotel's front door.

  • 6001 — Myeongdong, Namdaemun, Seoul Station
  • 6002 — Hongdae, Sinchon, Edae
  • 6005 — Gangnam area
  • 6015 — Myeongdong, City Hall, Gwanghwamun
  • 6020 — Jamsil, COEX, Gangnam

How to Ride

  1. Exit the arrivals hall and find the bus stop area outside (well-marked with signs)
  2. Check the route map at the bus stop to find which bus goes near your hotel
  3. Buy a ticket at the ticket booth next to the bus stops, or pay with T-money card when boarding
  4. Store your luggage underneath and relax

Traffic warning: During rush hours (7-9 AM, 5-8 PM on weekdays), the bus can take up to 90+ minutes due to highway traffic. If you're arriving during these hours, the AREX train is a better bet since it's not affected by traffic.

When to Choose the Bus

  • Your hotel is on a specific bus route (check before your trip)
  • You have heavy luggage and want minimal walking/transfers
  • You're arriving outside of rush hour
  • You prefer a comfortable seat and window view over the speed of the train

Option 3: Taxi — For Late Nights and Groups

Availability24/7
TollsIncluded or added on top (ask driver)

Taxis are the most expensive option for solo or couple travelers, but they make sense in a few scenarios:

Orange Korean taxi on a street in Seoul, South Korea
  • Late-night arrival — if your flight lands after midnight when trains and buses have stopped
  • Groups of 3-4 — split the cost and it becomes reasonable ($15-20 per person)
  • Heavy luggage — door-to-door service with no stairs or transfers
  • Exhaustion — after a 12-hour flight, sometimes you just want to get to your hotel

Types of Taxis

  • Regular taxi (orange/silver) — cheapest, metered. Some drivers speak limited English
  • Deluxe taxi (black) — larger, more comfortable, ~20% pricier. Drivers generally speak some English
  • International taxi — available at the airport, drivers speak English, fixed rates. More expensive but zero communication stress

Tip: Use the official taxi stand inside the airport, never accept rides from people approaching you in the arrivals hall. Also, have your hotel address ready in Korean — show the driver your phone screen with the address on Naver Map or Google Maps. Most drivers will understand the Korean address instantly.

Using Kakao T Instead

Once you have mobile data (get an eSIM before landing!), you can use Kakao T — Korea's ride-hailing app — to call a taxi. It shows the fare estimate upfront, tracks your route, and you can pay by card through the app. This eliminates communication issues and fare surprises. For more on essential travel apps, read our guide to must-have Korean apps for tourists.

Option 4: Private Transfer — Maximum Comfort

DetailInfo
Travel time60-80 minutes
Cost80,000-130,000 KRW (~$62-100 USD)
BookingPre-book online through Klook, KKday, or hotel

A private car with a driver meets you at the arrivals gate with a sign bearing your name. The driver handles your luggage and takes you directly to your hotel. This is the most comfortable and stress-free option, ideal for:

  • Families with young children
  • First-time visitors who want zero stress
  • Business travelers
  • Groups (larger vehicles available)

Pre-book through platforms like Klook or KKday for fixed pricing and guaranteed availability.

What About the KTX?

There is a KTX station at Incheon Airport, but I don't recommend it for getting to central Seoul. The airport KTX goes to Suseo Station in southern Seoul, not the central Seoul Station. Unless your destination is specifically near Suseo or you're heading south (to Busan, Daegu, etc.), the AREX is a much better choice. If you're planning day trips outside Seoul by train, our best day trips from Seoul by train guide covers all the options.

Before You Leave the Airport: Quick Checklist

Before heading to Seoul, take care of these while you're still at the airport:

  1. Activate your eSIM — if you set it up before your flight, just enable the Korea data line in your phone settings. See our SIM card vs eSIM comparison if you haven't decided yet
  2. Buy a T-money card — available at convenience stores (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven) in the arrivals hall. Load it with at least 20,000 KRW
  3. Withdraw cash — ATMs are available in the arrivals hall. Get 100,000-200,000 KRW to start. Most places accept cards, but some small restaurants and markets are cash-only
  4. Grab a free tourist map — available at the Korea Tourism Information Center in the arrivals hall
  5. Use the restroom — airport restrooms are excellent. Some buses and trains don't have facilities

Currency tip: Don't exchange money at the airport — the rates are poor. Instead, withdraw Korean won from an ATM using your debit card (Citibank and Hana Bank ATMs have the best rates for international cards). Or even better, just use your credit card everywhere — Korea is very card-friendly.

Getting Back: Seoul to Incheon Airport

For your return trip, all the same options work in reverse. A few tips:

  • Give yourself plenty of time — aim to arrive at the airport 3 hours before international flights
  • Check-in luggage early — Seoul Station has an early check-in service for some airlines. You can check your bags at Seoul Station and ride the AREX to the airport luggage-free. Check the official AREX website for current schedules and services
  • Rush hour matters more on the return trip — if taking a taxi or bus during evening rush hour, add 30+ minutes buffer
  • Last AREX Express departs Seoul Station around 6:40 PM — if your flight is late at night, take the All-Stop AREX (runs until ~11:50 PM) or a taxi

Getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul is easy and affordable. Whether you take the 43-minute express train or a comfortable limousine bus, you'll be exploring Seoul in no time. Welcome to Korea!
