What is The Root Network Staking?
The Root Network is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS)-based blockchain. By staking ROOT tokens, you can help secure the network while earning rewards. Anyone can easily participate with ROOT tokens, and to incentivize early participants, 10% of the total supply is allocated as a special bootstrap reward for the first 260 weeks.
There are three ways to participate in staking, each with different responsibilities and reward structures:
Staker
Earn 0.024640657 $ROOT per staked $ROOT during each reward period. Rewards are distributed as Vortex tokens at the end of the 90-day cycle.
Staked $ROOT tokens are locked but can be unstaked at any time with a 28-day unstaking period.
Nominator
Earn 0.049281314 $ROOT per staked $ROOT during each reward period. Rewards are distributed as Vortex tokens at the end of the 90-day cycle. Additional rewards are granted based on the performance of the nominated Validator, determined by the fee ratio and accumulated Work Points during the reward cycle.
Staked $ROOT tokens are exposed to the risk of slashing from the nominated Validator. Nominators must actively monitor and manage the status of their Validator.
Validator
Earn 0.073921971 $ROOT per staked $ROOT during each reward period. Rewards are distributed as Vortex tokens at the end of the 90-day cycle.
Validators earn additional rewards for performing validation tasks, minus fees paid to Nominators.
Staked $ROOT tokens are exposed to slashing risks. Setting up, operating, and maintaining a Validator node requires technical expertise and investment.

This guide provides instructions for participating as a Staker or Nominator.

Note: Rewards are forfeited if unstaking occurs before the reward cycle ends.
